Over the summer, we will be making decisions about student placements for the 2017-18 school year. Class placement decisions will be based on what is best for each student in addressing his/her needs during the upcoming school year. It is important that an equitable, compatible and balanced class be assembled to maximize your child's learning.
Due to the natural changes that occur in staffing as a result of individual and professional decisions, as well as changes in budgetary allocations, final class formations and teacher grade level placements will not occur until the last week in July.
We will be deciding placement through a team effort involving parent input, teacher input and administration. In an effort to provide the best education possible, we also have to consider class sizes, boy to girl ratios, personality needs, learning styles, and academic/behavioral needs. If you would like to give input regarding your child's placement for next year and request a teacher (please understand that we cannot make any guarantees), please fill out the attached form and submit it no later than 4:00 p.m. May 19, 2017. Our request window will be open from May 15 - May 19, 2017 and closes at 4:00 p.m. You will need to submit one form per child. All requests will go directly to administration.
Placing students according to friendships is not a priority. We have great confidence in the ability of all teachers at Longleaf Elementary and recognize that their strengths and abilities help to provide differentiated learning environments to meet the learning needs of all students. Class placement letters will be mailed home by the end of July.
Please note! We will be phasing out teacher requests after this year. This will be the last year we will allow requests. We ask that you trust us to do what is best for all students at Longleaf.
Ms. Heptig & Mrs. Wichmanowski
